Garage Floor Coating
To protect your garage floor, it is
advisable to apply a garage floor coating. Any one that has
applied some form of coating can vouch for the protection it
provides to the concrete, thus making it last longer.
Currently, there are several types of
garage floor coatings that are used. They are polyurethane, latex,
acrylic and epoxy. If you want the most popular type then you will
use epoxy. It is popular because it forms a very hard surface that
is durable. The drawback from this type of coating is that it is
quite labor intensive to apply it.
The concrete
must be completely clean and free of any dirt. It is very important
to read the directions before applying an epoxy garage floor
coating. If any
steps are not done correctly, the epoxy may not stick properly. It
will take a few hours for the floor to dry, however you will need
to wait several days before you can actually drive on
it.
You can purchase a kit that includes
the
epoxy garage floor
coating along
with a chemical solution that helps the paint stick to the floor.
In addition, there may be a primer that is applied after the
chemical solution. As mentioned above, it is important to read the
directions thoroughly before applying anything to the
concrete.
If you use a polyurethane
garage floor
coating you will
also have a durable coating that looks very professional when
finished. This type of finish will resist spills better than an
epoxy finish and it does not fade as quickly either.
Another popular garage floor coating
is latex paint. After a few days, you will need to apply a
protective coating, overtop. Latex and epoxy can fade from
sunlight, so try to limit the exposure to the sun.
Regardless of which type of garage
floor coating you choose, it will protect the concrete surface from
wear and tear and help it to last longer. In addition, it will give
your garage a very professional look.
