Tips For An Epoxy Floor Coating
Planning to buy a new house or renovating the existing one? Want to change the look and feel of your office or your showroom.
Epoxy floor coating may be the answer to all your problems.
I came across this different way of doing up the floor when we decided to renovate the basement of our house to turn it into a
play area for my twin daughters. These floors are considered a better bet due to their durability, variety of design and colors and are
resistant to oil & chemicals which would otherwise ruin the other flooring.
There are different kinds of epoxy floor coatings available in the market, which
can be selected, based on the individual / corporate needs:-
- 100% solid epoxies are considered strongest and most durable are suitable for industrial needs. Professionals should apply
them.
- Solvent-based epoxies, which contains about 40-60% solid are again reserved for industrial use.
- Water based epoxies which comes in a variety of colors could be used by individuals for home décor.
Providing epoxy floor coating not only lights up the dull cemented floor, they also make
the cleaning process easier. There are a number of manufacturers, which supply the floor coating, which could be applied by you and is much
cheaper than the traditional and other methods of flooring.
The first thing to take into account before applying epoxy floor coating is the preparation of flooring surface. Check that the
surface is clean and even. If you suspect dampness in the surface, some water proofing seal should be applied on the surface.
Next, apply epoxy primer on the surface, which makes the paint bond well with the surface. The final part consists of applying one
or two coats of any floor epoxy.
To add to the floor design, colored chips could be added which should be sealed with another layer of epoxy coating. Anti slip, grits could also be added while applying the coating to make it safer for kids.
Therefore, you get a beautiful designer floor, which is not just inexpensive but is also durable, chemical & grease resistant.
These floors require low maintenance and are also long lasting.
The flooring of the basement could be done by us using only a couple of hundred dollars and the resulting expressions of happiness
from my twin daughters was worth the effort and every single penny we spent on epoxy floor coating!
